Hmm. I Do believe the correct term is "alien". Superman is NOT a man, he is an extraterrestrial. If he was on his home planet, he'd be like EVERYONE else. He wouldn't be able to fly, or shoot lasers out of his eyes. He'd probably be like the George Costanza of Krypton. (ie, LAME-O-MAN!)

Whereas Batman IS a MAN! (THE MAN!!!!!) Plus he's way cooler! He's self-made. He doesn't have to rely on someone else's environment to be cool and strong.
