Online Predators

We all know how much fun it is to explore
different parts of who we are online. Feeling
that online it is safe to do so. Also feeling a
sense of freedom that we do not in our regular
world. Many people use it for fun and
entertainment taking what we see in others with
a grain of salt. Many of us do not care to have
any type of relationship with somone online
other than the aquaintance type of friendship.
Many on the net are just that, others like us,
researching, learning, (often filling a void).
However it is common to meet people online.
Many of these people we meet online become what
we call cyber friends. Harmless people like
ourselves entertaining ourselves in whatever way
that makes us happiest. Many of us are content
to have just that and nothing more. I know how
easy it is for me to throw out common sense
because I really want to trust people. I also
know I have slipped many times releaving more
than I felt comfortable revealing about myself.
If their is somone out there wishing to know
things about you, but is unwilling to give the
same in return; please beware.
I know the following are things many of us
already know, but for those of you who don't and
those of us who need a reminder; please read the
following.
If you find yourself in a situation where somone
wishes to have a relationship with you that is
more than a platonic cyber friendship, please
take precaution. The following is somthing I
found online, which may help:
On line predator -Definition: Somone who uses
the mechanisms of cyber space to hunt human
beings. Using the internet to rob plunder and
pillage your body, mind, heart and soul
Take a conscious effort to observe how people
interact with others. (which is often hard to
do online) The predator may well reveal their
true nature through their interactions with
others, not just how they interact with you
personally.
Characteristics
1. Liar
2. Deciever (self situation is presented as
other than what it is.
3. Betrayer (Likely to break trust)
4. Insecure (worried that others will not be loyal
5. Inconsistent (will say one thing while doing
another
6. Lacking Honor (usually while protesting they
hae it)
7. Lack of Respect (will tend to denigrate others)
8. Transient (unlikely to have many long term
friends)
9. Manipulator (calculates and contrives for
thier own benenfit to the detriment of others)
10. Secretive (will tend to cloak themselves and
thier activities)
11. Charming (If they could not steal your
breath away, they would not be a successful hunter)
12. Selective (will pick victims carefully,
looking for weaknesses and filling those voids
completely)
13. Chameleon (will appear to fit any need
perfectly and adapt to fill any desire)
Lacking in Self Control (Although at times, may
have extraordinary self control and discipline)
Warning signals:
1. Do not tell ______________.
2. __________is crazy! (or psycho, sick, a
liar, or out to get me)
3. It would be best if you no longer spoke to
_______.
4. I do not need to defend myself against lies.
5. They are just jealous of ________________.
We all want to have fun in the cyber world and
we all can if we remember how to stay safe.
