Could this be hereditary?

For years I have had the experience of my dreams coming true. Not my goals, not prophetic metaphorical visions. I just dream an event in detail, and it happens. Mabye a month, a week, or even a day later. However, like most dreams, I do not remember them for more than 10 min. after waking up. I have been told to write them down, but they just don't seem special enough to do so. Things like conversations, looking at a clock, games on a playground, trivial things. I wouldn't think much of it, but it happens so often, is involuntary, and I never remember the dream until it is in the process of coming true. I told my mom about this, and she confided to me that she had, and still does have, the same situation. Not only that, but it seems progressive. She experienced astral projection when she was only a few years older than I, and has gained an acute memory of her dreams. However, she halted the progression, due to a lack of knowlege of what it was, and a fear for her personal safety. I am highly scientific (majoring in physics) and have tried to find a reasonable explanation, but modern science still has a ways to go. I consulted "alternate" sources, who told me that I had not yet achieved maturity, and that when i did there would be great power, but of course to achieve that, I must pass a test, which they would not tell me anything about, other than the fact that unseen beings were screwing with my life, beings even they could not see. Does anyone have any insight into what's going on?
