The Slant Launches Version 3.0
April 21, 1998
(ORLANDO, FLORIDA) - GlobalMedia Design announced the re-launch of its
Orlando local content web-zine, The Slant (
http://www.theslant.com). This launch represents the second complete re-design since the
site's original launch on March 2, 1997.
Incorporating experience gained from over a year of operating Orlando's first online city publication,
the new Slant combines the cutting edge of technology, design, and community metaphor. Among major changes,
discussion postings are now elevated to an equal status as published content, reinforcing the importance
of community participation that is the core of The Slant's model.
Executive Producer Brian Clark describes the new navigation: "In this latest version, the technology
has gone underground, creating a seamless experience for the reader. Almost organically, The Slant is
constantly customizing itself based on the choices that any individual reader makes. We have an intuitive,
traditional navigational structure for those who prefer it, but those new to the Web can easily find those
parts of The Slant that most interest them."
The new version of The Slant is also the testing ground of GMD's new software tool, More Like This,
designed to use a webpage's META tags to build links to other related content on the site. The Slant's
articles now feature "Related Stuff" links pointing to other related articles, current event schedules for
venues, even online purchasing of related books, videos and music. GMD plans to release More Like This
for other webmasters to use as part of their Radiation software brand.
The Slant is a new hybrid of media that combines some aspects of the alternative press, city guide
information, and online community.
