Orlando Webzine to Launch in March
February 17, 1997
(ORLANDO, FLORIDA) - GlobalMedia Design and
Killer Bee Media are set to launch a community
focused webzine for Orlando and Central Florida on Monday, March 3, 1997. The interactive publication,
The Slant, will feature coverage of local sports,
politics, arts, music, food, and nightlife.
"We take a community approach to publishing," says Dan Leeds, Publisher of The Slant. "Rather
than opinionated critics and authoritarian writers, The Slant blurs the line between writer and reader
by giving everyone a voice."
These articles are supported by a collection of "community interaction" features, including online
discussion groups, opinion polls and moderated chat sessions. "Articles are just the jumping off
point for discussions," explains Anna Sheldon, Editor for The Slant. "There's a place for
everyone's slant on an issue or story."
The website also includes an "events engine" that lets visitors generate custom schedules of activities
in the Central Florida area by choosing types of activities, times during the day and specific keywords
to look for. The resulting schedule includes admission prices, locations and is hyperlinked to other
websites that contain more information.
"It's one of the most complex pieces of database software we've built to date," reports Brian Clark,
President of GlobalMedia Design, which designed the interactive systems supporting The Slant. "It's certainly
the easiest way to find something to do in Orlando."
The Slant hosted a "sneak preview" reception today at Enzian Theater in Maitland for local businesses and
media.
The Slant will be published "continuously", with new articles and reviews being added daily to the
site. Sheldon anticipates releasing twelve to thirty new articles a week.
GlobalMedia Design (Orlando/New York City) and Killer Bee Media (Orlando) are two of Central
Florida's leading web design and Internet application development firms.
