WebPromote Acquires Popular Rank This! Web Site
December 3, 1997
(LIBERTYVILLE, IL) - WebPromote, a leading full-service provider
of targeted Internet web site marketing and promotions, announced today that it has acquired
Rank This!, a high-traffic web site that features free, interactive search engine ranking
tools for Webmasters. Rank This! enables visitors to pinpoint their site's ranking in
searches performed on popular Internet search engines such as Yahoo!, Lycos and Hotbot.
Located at http://www.rankthis.com/, Rank This!
and its web software tools were developed by GlobalMedia Design, a leading cyberspace application and
venture development firm based in Orlando, Florida. Launched in March 1997 and promoted through a
partnership with WebPromote, Rank This! now attracts well over 500,000 visitors each month --
a figure that is increasing monthly by 50% on average.
"The success of the Rank This! site is a testament to GlobalMedia Design's ability to develop
useful software tools for Webmasters -- and its popularity demonstrates our ability to spread the
word in the Internet community," said WebPromote President Ken Wruk. "The more we worked to promote
Rank This!, the more we saw it as a complement to our own suite of solutions for increasing
web site traffic. Rank This! visitors want to know how to improve their rankings on the most
popular search engines, and we expect they will appreciate additional strategies, solutions and
service offerings that only WebPromote is equipped to provide."
"GlobalMedia Design initially pursued this partnership because we knew WebPromote could help
Webmasters discover our tools on the Rank This! site, and we're pleased that WebPromote
found our software such a useful asset in the meantime," said Brian Clark, President of GlobalMedia
Design. "Rank This! has become so popular that we're happy to turn over its site management
to WebPromote. Since both firms are geared towards helping Webmasters be more effective on-line,
we expect to partner with WebPromote in many future ventures."
Visitors to the Rank This! site can examine their site's rankings on eight major search
engines based on any search phrase. The application reveals their exact rank, unless the site does
not rate within the top 200 -- the usual cut-off for most search engines. In addition, the
application reveals the sites ranking in the top ten, which are most often visited following
an actual search by a web user. Webmasters who use Rank This! can reduce hours of manual
research on busy search engines to a few minutes of exploration.
Once the site is transitioned to WebPromote in January 1998, Rank This! will give visitors
easy access to WebPromote's solutions for measuring and improving traffic to their sites.
Rank This! will remain a free tool for all visitors, and WebPromote's skilled team of
web software engineers will continue to develop functionality of the Rank This! search
engine ranking application, in line with the evolution of the World Wide Web.
