The core team behind GMD Studios is an intimate collaboration of
multi-disciplinary strategists and producers.
Partner/CEO
Brian Clark

As CEO and Partner, Brian has spent the last sixteen years guiding GMD Studios' creative and strategic growth. Over those years, he's been the most familiar face of GMD on the conference circuit (for such diverse communities as interactive, film, advertising, publishing, DIY producction and gaming). He has a passion for the power of experience design, the opportunities for independent artists, and the transformative nature of networked communities.

Before co-founding GMD Studios, Brian was a recording engineer, independent music producer and entrepreneur in Columbia, MO. He's old enough to remember having to explain to people what the Internet was and why people should care about it. Brian currently leads our New York team, but still keeps a foot in Orlando (where he lived for 14 years).

Partner/CFO
Tammy J. Kearns

Tammy serves as the CFO for GMD Studios, while also handling Human Resources and Administration. She has also been responsible for financial and tax issues for several of GMD’s co-ventures. In the early days of GMD, Tammy had more of a creative role but it was her attention to detail, organizational skills and P&L knowledge that were most valuable to the company.

Prior to co-founding GMD Studios in 1995, Tammy's career was centered on the training of management personnel in the food and beverage industry. Originally from Indiana, she was selected to relocate to Central Florida in 1987 in order to open and staff a number of restaurants. Tammy fell in love with Florida and has remained in the Orlando area. She currently splits her time between Orlando and Indianapolis.

Partner/CTO
Andrew Cowan

Andrew serves as CTO for GMD Studios, mainly spending his time behind the scenes, appeasing the 'server' and developing software to power the often rational whims of his partners. He has been involved with programming and online communities since long before the internet became a household word, having started with only his beloved Atari 800XL and 300 baud modem.

Andrew lives in North Carolina with his wife of 14 years, Suzanne and his two wonderful children Abby and Zach as well as a couple dozen ex-stray cats and a flock of chickens. When offline he can be found playing with his kids, picking at his guitars or sometimes playing a video game.

Partner/COO
J.D. Ashcraft

Based in Orlando, James "J.D." Ashcraft splits his time between consulting for clients and developing new in-house ventures. Over the 15 years he has been on the GMD team, and the thousands of individual engagements that have occurred in that time, he has developed a unique, hard-won perspective on partner and end user experiences. This lens allows J.D. to produce engaging experiences efficiently.

With long work weeks, two little girls at home and a brilliantly talented artist for a wife, there is precious little for J.D. to pursue his favorite hobbies, which include prowling the open seas in search of a few hours away from civilization and starring down opponents across poker tables, another escape from the civilized world.

Executive Producer
JONNY LEAHAN

Since joining the GMD Studios family in 1998, Jonny Leahan has worked as a producer, writer and director across a variety of projects and mediums, allowing him to hone his storytelling skills using methods from documentary film to journalism. In 2006, Jonny served as Publisher on the Ford Bold Moves project, where he worked with leading journalists to help tell the story of the largest corporate turnaround in history. In 2008, he went on to direct dozens of documentary style videos for the Drive One campaign, using news gathering techniques to create one-minute segments rich with information.

More recently, he has served as Editor on the Microsoft campaigns "Because it's Everybody's Business" and "Cloud Power", where he worked with employees as well as journalists to create newsroom style content for an IT audience. Now as an Executive Producer for GMD Studios, Jonny brings a unique skill set that fuses his marketing, publishing, journalism, and filmmaking background. He loves to help brands and organizations tell their stories in new and compelling ways. Jonny currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.

Producer
Robert Wood

Robert got his start with GMD as a distributor for indieWIRE during the 2002 Sundance Film Festival. After five years and relocating to New York City from Los Angeles, Robert now works full-time with GMD as a producer where he utilizes his writing and filmmaking background to find and implement creative solutions for projects ranging from alternate reality games, documentary films and brand journalism campaigns.

GMD Studios' innovative work has offered Robert an opportunity to produce unique projects that advocate corporate transparency and push the boundaries of contemporary storytelling. As an avid outdoorsman, Robert can be found taking respite from the clamor of New York City by exploring the country through camping and winter sports.

New Business Coordinator
Brian Dell

As the New Business Coordinator at GMD Studios, Brian starts conversations with GMD's future collaborators. He's always looking for businesses or organizations ready to try something new.

He came to New York City and GMD in 2008 as part of the Brand Journalism team working on Microsoft. Previously he worked in communications and public policy as a Research Analyst in a state legislature, a partner in a design firm, and an agency copywriter. He is an obsessive generalist.

Executive Creative Director
Brian Cain

Brian Cain’s partnership with GMD goes all the way back to Fox TV show Freakylinks, circa 2000, where he portrayed the lead character of the TV show online for a full year prior to the series premiere, creating a deep and lasting bond with the audience that helped propel the show into cult status.

More recently Brian has been the creative director for projects that visualized everything from vampires ‘coming out’ to North Korea taking over the world. Creating these fictional worlds through transmedia storytelling and then letting an audience live in and explore them is what he enjoys the most about his work.

Brian lives in Orlando with his beautiful wife, a son named Danger and a daughter named after Dad’s favorite Star Trek character. And no, it’s not Worf.
